Patch Test Policy
Your Safety and Comfort at John Richards Hairdressing
At John Richards Hairdressing (Mid Kent Shopping Centre, Allington, Maidstone ME16 0PU), your safety is our top priority. That’s why we require a skin sensitivity (patch) test before carrying out certain hair colour, tinting, or chemical services.
This policy helps ensure you enjoy your treatments safely and confidently.
Why Do We Require a Patch Test?
All professional hair colouring, toning, tinting, and chemical treatments carry a very small risk of allergic reaction, even if you have used similar products before without issue.
A patch test allows us to check for any sensitivity to the ingredients in the products we use. It’s a quick and simple way to protect you from discomfort or health risks.
When Is a Patch Test Needed?
We require a patch test if:
- You are a new client to John Richards Hairdressing
- You haven’t had a colour or chemical service with us in the last 6 months
- You are changing to a new colour or type of chemical treatment
- You’ve had changes to your medical or allergy history (such as pregnancy or illness)
How Does It Work?
We apply a small amount of product behind your ear or on your inner elbow at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment.
If there’s no reaction (such as redness, itching, or swelling), you’re cleared to go ahead with your service. If you do experience any reaction, please contact us immediately.
Important Notes
✔ We cannot carry out colour or chemical services without a valid patch test.
✔ Even if you’ve used home colour or visited another salon, a fresh patch test is needed with us.
✔ If you develop any reactions or concerns after your service, please let us know straight away.
